How does Yufuin differ from Beppu?
Beppu impresses with sheer onsen volume and the dramatic Hells; Yufuin offers quiet, highland refinement. About 1 hour by car from Beppu, near Yufuin IC. You can visit both in a single day, but staying overnight in Yufuin is ideal to capture the night and morning mist.

From JR Kyudai Main Line «Yufuin» Station, the town center is walkable. The Limited Express «Yufuin no Mori» (Hakata–Yufuin, ~2 hr 20 min) is popular as a sightseeing train. From Fukuoka Airport, ~1 hr 50 min by car. From Beppu, 1 hr by car. With a rental car, pair with a Mt. Yufu drive.
