नागानो· Tateishi Park

Tateishi Park, located at 934 m elevation in Kakuma-zawa, Kami-Suwa, Suwa City, Nagano Prefecture, is a municipal park overlooking Lake Suwa — a recreational space for Suwa's citizens and one of Nagano's premier scenic vantages. The sweeping panorama takes in Lake Suwa below (13.3 km²), the Yatsugatake Range (Mt. Akadake, 2,899 m) opposite, and on clear days even Mt. Fuji 150 km away. By night, the lights of Suwa, Okaya, and Chino Cities sparkle like a jewel box, making the park a sacred ground for Suwa Basin nightscapes. After being featured as the model for Lake Itomori in Makoto Shinkai's «Your Name» (released 2016, ¥25 billion box office), it has become an international pilgrimage site for film fans. With a viewing deck, parking, and restrooms — and 24-hour access (with appropriate etiquette) — it photographs beautifully at every hour: cherry blossoms, fresh greens, sunsets, night views, and starscapes.

Quick Answers

What is Tateishi Park?
A municipal park at 934 m in Suwa City, Nagano, overlooking Lake Suwa — one of Nagano's premier scenic vantages. Internationally famous as the model for Lake Itomori in Makoto Shinkai's «Your Name» (2016), it photographs beautifully at every hour: nightscapes, cherry blossoms, sunsets, and starscapes.
Tips for night view and starscape?
Tripod essential. For night views: ISO 200, f/8, 10–30 s. For stars: ISO 3200, f/2.8, ~15 s. The 20–30 min after sunset (magic hour) gives the loveliest gradient of city lights against twilight sky. Winter air clarity even reveals Mt. Fuji; the August 15 fireworks festival makes the area extremely crowded.
Access and etiquette?
About 15 minutes by car from JR Kami-Suwa Station, or 30 minutes on foot (steep). Free parking, 24-hour access. Late at night, be mindful of nearby residents — no loud voices or engine noise. Watch for icy roads in winter; a 4WD is recommended.
Why is it a «Your Name» pilgrimage site?
Director Makoto Shinkai stated Lake Suwa was the model for Lake Itomori. The view from Tateishi Park is the backdrop where Mitsuha watches the comet fall. Pilgrims arrive from around the world; July–August dusk (matching the film's hours) is the most crowded. Comparing your composition to the film deepens the experience.
Recommended camera gear?
①Wide angle (16–35mm) for the lake and full city view ②Telephoto (70–200mm) for lake-surface detail and far-shore mountains ③Standard zoom for the trail and gazebo. Tripod placement should not block paths during crowds. Vloggers often bring smartphone rigs. Winter night shots get sub-zero — bring condensation prevention and spare batteries.
Combined sightseeing route?
①Tateishi Park (evening to night, night view + stars) ②Suwa Taisha (20 min by car, Kamisha Honmiya and Shimosha Akimiya) ③Takashima Park (15 min by car, cherry + reflection) ④Suwa Lake Fireworks (Aug 15, pre-plan required) ⑤Kami-Suwa Onsen (overnight ryokan). A 1–2 night plan covers Suwa's «Your Name» sites, history, vistas, and onsen.
