Kyoto's foliage peak is mid- to late November. Tofuku-ji peaks around November 20, Kiyomizu-dera November 25–early December, Kinkaku-ji late November. Higher-altitude areas (Kibune, Kurama) start coloring in early November. Track via the Japan Meteorological Association autumn-front map.

Early morning 7:00 opening and evening illumination work best (Tofuku-ji has no illumination — daytime only; Kiyomizu-dera 17:30–21:00). Mid-afternoon 14:00–16:00 lights leaves with backlit translucence. Overcast days flatten the color but reveal saturation more cleanly.

Foliage is most vivid in backlight and transmitted light. Underexpose by -0.3 to -0.7EV to deepen reds. Wide-angle for sky+foliage compositions, telephoto for layered foliage, macro for leaf detail — focal length defines the story. White-balance «Daylight» is faithful; «Shade» adds warmth.

Popular spots (Tsutenkyo bridge) ban tripods and selfie sticks. Bring fast lenses (f/2.8–f/4) for hand-holding. C-PL filter cuts leaf reflections and boosts foliage color. Illumination requires high-ISO cameras and fast glass.
คำแนะนำภาคสนาม
Tofuku-ji Tsutenkyo is congested — weekday 7:00 entry recommended. Kiyomizu illumination needs no reservation but waits build after 17:00. Post-rain days leave water droplets on leaves and stunning moss contrast. Even after fall, «chiri-momiji» (carpet of fallen leaves) makes beautiful compositions.
