Körsbärsblommor
Iconic cherry blossom spots that define Japanese spring. The three-tier composition of Mt. Fuji + Chureito Pagoda + sakura at Arakurayama Sengen Park, the «No.1 cherry under heaven» at Takato Castle Park, the 400-year-old solitary cherry at Komatsunagi, Matsumoto's Kobo-yama Tumulus and Joyama Park (a Top-100 Sakura Site), the century-old weeping cherry at Anyo-ji, and Takashima Park beside Lake Suwa — April's finest scenes.

Bästa säsong
Early to mid-April is peak. Timing varies by altitude and latitude — Arakurayama Sengen Park at the foot of Mt. Fuji peaks around April 10, Matsumoto in mid-April, Takato Castle Park (900m) mid-to-late April. Anyo-ji's weeping cherry peaks around April 10. Check the Japan Meteorological Agency forecast against prior-year actuals.
Bästa tidpunkt
Early morning 5:30–7:00 and after 17:00 are ideal. Mornings are less crowded with softer light. Mt. Fuji + Chureito Pagoda + sakura works best with morning front-light; sunset-sky compositions work later. Where night illumination runs (Takato, Matsumoto Castle), the 30-minute «blue hour» after sunset gives the strongest white-vs-blue contrast.
Teknik
Cherry branches are thin and easy to miss focus. Stop down to f/8–f/11 for depth. Backlight with petals semi-translucent is highly effective. Wide-angle (16–35mm) for grand scenes like Fuji + sakura; medium-tele (70–200mm) for weeping-cherry detail. White-balance set to «Cloudy» pushes the pinks.
Utrustning
Tripod essential for early/late low-light. ND filter for daytime slow-shutter (branch motion). Circular polarizer (C-PL) deepens sky blue and cuts leaf reflection. A single 24–105 standard zoom covers most cases. Bring a rain cover — Japan's spring weather is unstable.
Praktiska tips
Wind blurs branches — keep shutter ≥1/250s. Use your body as a windbreak when on a tripod. Peak bloom lasts 5–7 days, but «80% bloom + clear sky» often photographs better than «full bloom + overcast». Monitor cherry-front maps daily during the chase.
