Cascading waters of Japan. Hokkaido's Sandan Falls Park and Kochi's Niko-buchi with its emerald-green pool — Japan's water in motion.

Waterfalls are most beautiful during snowmelt (late April–May) and fresh greenery (May). Sandan Falls peak in spring; Niko-buchi's blue peaks May–October (avoid post-storm muddy flows). Autumn (late October–November) gives waterfall + foliage spectacle. Frozen waterfalls (Sandan etc.) are a February-only shot.
أفضل وقت
Overcast to light rain is ideal. Direct sunlight blows out highlights and creates harsh contrast. Just-after-rain peaks rock and moss saturation. The 10:00–11:00 window when forest light reaches the waterfall basin is fleeting but magical. Early morning combines with mist.
تقنية
Slow shutter (1/4–2s) renders water as silken threads. Below 1/30s the motion partially freezes, adding depth. ND filter (8–64) enables daytime slow shutter. CPL cuts rock reflections and boosts moss green. Wide-angle for whole falls; medium-tele for water-motion details. Tripod essential.
المعدات
Tripod with waterproof cover (spray exposure). ND filter 8–64. CPL. Rain cover. Plenty of absorbent cloths for lens spray. Sandan and Niko-buchi have trails — gear transport is OK, but bring grippy shoes for wet footing.
نصائح عملية
Niko-buchi's «blue» is at peak around noon on clear days when sunlight reaches the bottom. The site is sacred (former ritual ground) — observe etiquette. Sandan Falls has small parking, weekends crowded — visit weekdays. Best timing is 3–5 days after rain — once muddy flow returns to calm blue.
