Курган Кобояма
Kobo-yama Tumulus, atop the 650 m Mt. Kobo in Namiyanagi, Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture, is a roughly 66 m «zenpo-koho-fun» — a square-front, square-back keyhole-style tomb — and one of eastern Japan's oldest, estimated to date from the late 3rd century. Designated a National Historic Site, the tumulus yielded Triangular-Rim Mythical-Beast Mirrors and other artifacts during a 1974 excavation by Nagano and Matsumoto, providing crucial evidence that 4th-century Kinai culture had reached the northern Shinano region remarkably early. About 4,000 Yoshino and yamazakura cherry trees encircle the summit; in mid-April at peak bloom, sweeping views unfold of downtown Matsumoto and the Northern Alps — Mt. Norikura, the Hotaka Range, Mt. Jonen — making the snow-capped peaks framed by cherry blossoms one of Matsumoto's most celebrated spring scenes nationally.
